Heavy Metals 0001

The Five Heavy Metals of the Dark Multiverse are divine and "impossibly heavy" metals found throughout the Multiverse that originate from the Forge of Creation. These five metals, when all focused into a single person, can create a portal to the Dark Multiverse. The Court of Owls used this ritual, called "The Mantling", through Batman, and used him as the gateway to allow Barbatos, and his Dark Knights, into the Prime DC Universe. This led to the events of Dark Nights Metal. Many of these metals can be used to create Metahumans.

Nth Metal[]

Nth Metal is a variant of 10th Metal (also called Element X), an incomplete facsimile of the purer Metal sent back to the dawn of time by Barbatos. In the Prime Earth universe it is native to Thanagar, the home planet of Katar Hol and Shayera Thal. Among the unusual properties of Nth metal is the ability to negate gravity, allowing a person wearing an object, such as a belt, made of Nth Metal to fly. In addition, Nth metal also protects the wearer from the elements and speeds the healing of wounds, increases their strength, and protects them from extremes in temperature.

Batman, while being primed for the "Mantling" ritual, had Nth metal introduced to his system when he, with the help of Duke Thomas, used it to power his "Final Machine" to peer into the Dark Multiverse.

After the Source Wall was destroyed by Justice League while fighting to stave off the invasion of Barbatos and his twisted Acolytes, all Nth Metal forms throughout reality have become super active due to various energy forces flooding in from the Multiverse.

10th Metal[]

Also known as Element X or the "fire of the Fourth World", this metal is the power source of most technology belonging to the New Gods, such as Mother Boxes, Father Boxes and the Miracle Machine. It can be manipulated by thought alone to achieve nearly anything, and is present in small quantities in every single thing, sentient being or otherwise, in the Multiverse.

Since everything within existence is made from the 10th Metal in its least concentrated state, she who dons this miracle substance has the power to rewrite the nature of reality on a totallic scale.

8th Metal[]

The form of metal known as the Eighth Metal is the purest form of the metal favored by gods. Like Nth metal, 8th metal is a derived from Element X, being two steps from pure Tenth Metal, and one step from Nth Metal.

As it is a metal favored by the gods, they are the ones who primarily use this metal. Hephaestus used this metal to forge the godly weapons such as the Sunblade for Apollo, along with eleven others for those of the other members of the Gods of Olympus, Wonder Woman's Bracelets of Submission were also forged of this metal, and the Thirteen Heavens, the temple of the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca in the Sphere of the Gods, is also made of Eighth Metal.

The metal also acts as a powerful energy amplifier which can be used in order to bolster the mental abilities of psychics, as was the case with Jarro after he'd been handed a capsule made out of the alloy by Scott Free. Gnomon, also a telepath, specializes in 8th Metal and uses it to both create Metahumans and amplify his own powers.

Electrum[]

Electrum is a metal that the Court of Owls learned to use from Doctor Leviticus centuries ago to save and reanimate their Talons over generations. The bodies of the Talons were specifically prepped so that they would reanimate in a matter of minutes if touching a piece of Electrum, usually in the form of a metal tooth implant. This process was further perfected in the modern day by Mister Freeze, who hadn't realized he was working for the Court but, instead, was told he was working towards the downfall of Batman.

Batman, while being primed for the "Mantling" ritual, was unknowingly exposed to Electrum when he was trapped in the Court of Owls' Labyrinth and forced to drink from their fountain.

Dionesium[]

Dionesium is a naturally occurring liquid metal that has the supernatural ability to revive dead tissue and bring the dead back to life. The metal is named after Dionysus, the Greek god of rebirth and is typically found in the waters of a Lazarus Pit. Natural, uncorrupted Dionesium is hard to come by and most sources are mixed with other materials. Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins are infamously known to be in control of their own Lazarus Pits and the Court of Owls' mix Dionesium into their Electrum alloy.

Metahumans who use a Lazarus Pit are not only healed but their powers are also altered or expanded. The waters of the Lazarus Pits can also merge with Metahuman blood and make them nigh-immortal.

Batman, while being primed for the "Mantling" ritual, was exposed to Dionesium in his fight to the death with the Joker

Promethium[]

Promethium is an artificial alloy created and patented by Steve Dayton of Dayton Industries. A creation based upon the myth of the ancient Greek Titan Prometheus, Mr. Dayton started on Project: Promethium intent on making indestructible vehicles to prevent accidents on the road for starters. With grander ambitions of using the limitless energies produced by his invention to affect total biological regeneration down the line, stating that in later production it was possible to use Volatile Promethium's infinite energy capacity to effect physical regrowth of damaged or destroyed organic tissue. It's creator also feared that such application's of his work could be used more nefariously as the most diabolical weapon ever conceived, given it's ability to generate limitless energy coupled with the inherent absorption quality; able to amplify stored energy alongside it's own to an infinite degree, which can be used to create an arsenal powerful enough to demolish planets and destroy the universe if it fell into the wrong hands.

Depleted Promethium[]

When alloyed with titanium and vanadium, it forms a near-invulnerable metal. The bionic and cybernetic components of Cyborg (Victor Stone) are made out of depleted promethium, and Arsenal of the Justice League of America wears a bodysuit that combines both depleted promethium and Kevlar.

Volatile Promethium[]

Promethium is also capable of channeling, amplifying and perpetuating near-limitless amounts of energy, as such it can be used as a power source for many gadgets or create the most destructive arms imaginable. However, this "volatile promethium" is a dangerous mutagen that can be used to mutate living beings or trigger their metagene. Matthew Bland's Red Lion armor is made (either wholly or in part) of volatile promethium.

Batman, while being primed for the "Mantling" ritual, was exposed to Promethium by his Final Machine when he used it to restore his memory after is death and rebirth.

Batmanium[]

Batmanium is a metal element with supernatural capabilities, discovered and named by Powers International in their quest to find undiscovered elements in the "island of stability"—the concept that, at some point, elements stop being too radioactive to remain stable.

Batmanium's atomic number is 206. It was given its name in honor of Batman after he had apparently died in the Joker's endgame, with science funded by the Court of Owls.

Batmanium can be utilized in the form of a liquid or a solid at room temperature. It is extremely dense, as shown when Powers International fashioned a large batarang for its public reveal to weigh two tons. Whatever industrial applications for the metal thus far remain unknown.

While Batman was unknowingly primed for the "Mantling" ritual by being exposed to all the metals over the course of his career, Batman was personally exposed to Batmanium last by the Court of Owls.
